Social Fusion: Generation Next
Social Fusion, a business incubator for entrepreneurs to grow for-profit and nonprofit businesses that produce sustainable social and environmental impact, presented its fifth "Conversations in Social Enterprise" session. Panelists for the September 23rd session, Generation Next: Empowering the Leaders of Tomorrow, gathered with 50 attendees to discuss the opportunities and lessons learned in empowering youth. They shared remarkable stories of youth innovation and discussed how to include youth in an organization. The session was concluded by two extremely talented teen poets from Youth Speaks. Listen to the podcast here.
Social Fusion’s Conversations in Social Enterprise, now in its third year, has a threefold purpose – to build:
- Knowledge: by bridging practical lessons from the trenches and strategy in taking on the greatest growth challenges in social enterprise;
- Community / Networks: by building a cross-sector community of business leaders, investors and philanthropists, and social entrepreneurs that are developing leading edge solutions to our toughest social and economic challenges;
- Capital: by facilitating capital and resource flow in social enterprise through a 'safe' environment (ie, pitch free!) to engage on issues of substance about how to bridge business and social change.
All Conversations in Social Enterprise forums focus on a balanced between practical, hands on explorations and lessons learned; and larger questions of strategy and vision. Questions we (as well as the broader Social Edge audience) would like to continue delving into from our Friday session include:
- Role of Support: What role(s) can/should social enterprise and/or the nonprofit sector play in developing leadership potential and supporting the next generation of changemakers?
- The Essentials: What tools, resources, or other opportunities are essential in cultivating the youth leaders of the future?
- Youth perspective: How can we do a better job or incorporating youth's perspectives into this conversation?
- Collaboration: How can we create incentives for collaboration among youth programs, schools, and other service providers to address the fragmented, uncoordinated nature of our field?
This session is part of a larger, 6-part forum series called Conversations in Social Enterprise that Social Fusion is offering for the 3rd year as part of our commitment to blur the boundaries between philanthropy and business. Together, we are Empowering Entrepreneurs to Change the World.
