SSIR Seeking Managing Editor

The Stanford Social Innovation Review is seeking to hire a managing editor. The managing editor reports to the academic editors and works closely with SSIR’s staff to produce a magazine that makes complex intellectual material not only accessible and entertaining, but also relevant to practitioners in the social and private sectors.

This requires the managing editor to:

* Supervise a staff consisting of a senior editor, contributing writers, undergraduate and graduate student interns, artists, copyeditors, designers, and administrative assistants.
*
* Oversee the editing of all sections of the journal to ensure addictive writing, intellectual rigor, factual accuracy and practical relevance.
* Write and edit articles that meet these criteria.
* Suggest and solicit articles of relevance to our audience, which requires knowledge of and passion about issues important to the social sector.
* Manage production by establishing and meeting deadlines, monitoring policies and procedures, and fostering good relationships with contributors, vendors, and members of the Stanford community.

Qualifications

* Passion for and commitment to helping the people who work to improve society do an even better job.
* Experience as the managing editor a high-quality magazine.
* Aptitude for supervising an energetic and talented group of writers, editors, artists, and interns.
* Significant experience editing and writing for sophisticated and diverse audiences
* Evidence of the strong analytical skills necessary for evaluating, developing, and clarifying complex ideas.
* Interest in and knowledge of nonprofits, foundations, philanthropy, and socially responsible corporations, including issues relevant to their effective management.
* Interest in substantive issues of concern to SSIR, including the environment, education, poverty, healthcare, the arts, and human rights.
* Knowledge of and experience with business concepts, such as corporate citizenship, social entrepreneurship, leadership, management, marketing, and strategy.
