Our History
Solutions Magazine was founded on March 1, 2004 by a group of Stanford University undergraduates, with seed capital from the Business Association of Stanford Engineering Students (BASES) and YouthVenture. Theory of Change
New Media – Today's media refuses to focus on the high impact innovations people are developing to solve the world's problems, dismissing them as hype or simply not newsworthy. We are developing the new role of media, focusing on not just the problems of society, but also the solutions.
Future Leaders – Our focus is on university students, who represent the future leaders in business, government, and nonprofits. By inspiring the students of today with new ideas and new perspectives, we are truly preparing the leaders of tomorrow with the knowledge to make better decisions.
Innovation and Entrepreneurship - Martin Fisher developed an irrigation pump that generates $35 million for low income subsistence farmers. Muhammad Yunus, founder of the Grameen Bank, started the microfinance revolution that has served anywhere from 30 to 50 million of the world's poorest people. By exposing students to the work of these innovators and entrepreneurs, we will accelerate the pace of which new ideas and new ventures will address the world's problems.

Endorsements
What you're trying to do here is not just launch a magazine, but to launch a movement -- you want undergraduate students to be exposed to information about social entrepreneurship and then to act on that information. -Cheryl Dahle, Jounralist, Fast Company
The key thing that I like about your idea is the focus on high impact innovations that will change society. What interests me most are the ways that people can innovate to do things better -- better ways to make government accountable, or manage asthma, or run a high school. If you can find examples and boil down the innovations to principles and practices that can be widely adopted you will provide a real service. -David Bornstein, Author, How to Change the World: Social Entrepreneurs and the Power of New Ideas .
